The evolution of strong reproductive barriers towards the completion of speciation

The Swiss National Science Foundation awarded Dr. Kay Lucek (FG Willi) with an Eccellenza Professorial Fellowship allowing him to establish his own research group and to continue his line of study, that he developed at the Department of Environmental Sciences. His Eccellenza project will address open questions associated with the evolution and persistence of biodiversity. In particular he will study how chromosomes evolve and assess how they could drive the evolution of butterflies. The project will moreover investigate the mechanisms that prevent the coexistence of closely related Alpine butterfly species.

Congratulations!
