Radio-Isotope Lab

Our laboratory is equipped for the determination of biogeochemical reaction and bacterial production rates with radio-tracer assays. One of the routinely performed measurements in the radio-isotope lab is the quantification of methane turnover (i.e., aerobic/anaerobic methane oxidation rates) using 14CH4- and C3H4-amended incubations of water and sediment samples.
Equipment:
- Oxidation furnace (Carbolite)
- Purge and trap set-up for 14CO2 collection
- Wet scintillation Counter (Perkin Elmer AS 2000)
