Around 80 doctoral students at the DUW conduct research in various fields of environmental sciences as part of their doctoral studies. We see this diversity in research fields as a strength and would like to foster synergies through a structured PhD program. Starting in 2026, the PhD Program Environmental Sciences will offer interdisciplinary training on current and innovative research concepts across a broad spectrum of research fields ranging from integrative biology to earth sciences.

The PhD Program will introduce students to state-of-the-art research techniques, including a diverse array of workshops on bio- and geoinformatics, statistical methods, machine learning and artificial intelligence in the environmental sciences.

The goal of the program is to provide optimal preparation for a career in science, whether at academic institutions, government agencies, NGOs or industry.
