Research Interests

I am interested in aquatic ecosystems, understanding their interactions with the climate system and the application of that understanding to the reconstruction of past environmental conditions using archived lake sediments. I am particularly interested in aquatic faunal assemblages and specialize in the identification of subfossil Chironomidae (non-biting midges) which can be used for a variety of environmental reconstructions including temperature fluctuations and nutrient conditions.

I am currently working on a chironomid record from Southern Germany and aim to reconstruct temperature change in the Eemian interglacial and the subsequent Wurmian glacial.
